Naples does not have large resort style retirement communities, where residents travel in golf carts to shopping and dining. But it does have many attractive communities with wonderful amenities and schedule activities.
Even the smallest community will have a polo and the occasional get together or pot luck. For this discussion, we will define any community that has a many nice amenities with various scheduled events a dining option(s) for residents as a resort community.
The majority of the Naples area resort style communities are the bundled golf communities. Bundled golf has it all – golf, pool, restaurants, snack bar, tennis and many different scheduled events. But there are several very nice resort style communities without golf.
One of the first non-golf communities with many different amenities and activities was Village Walk. Village Walk was started in the late 1990s, and featured a town center. The homes on either side of a street were on water, and at the end of the street are inter-connecting pedestrian bridges that lead to the Town Center.
It was the first non-golf community with large fitness centers and a restaurant. And also included a hair salon, lap pool, post office, tennis leagues, and much more.
After Village Walk the developer built Island Walk in the early 2000s. Island Walk follow the same town center and amenity model as Village Walk, but also added a putting green, gas station and a car wash.
After Island Walk came Verona Walk, starting construction in 2005. It followed the same model as the other Walks, but without a gas station. And after Verona Walk the Developer started Village Walk of Bonita Springs, in Bonita Springs, north of Naples.
They would have a large clubhouse, a restaurant / bar / grill, fitness center, pool(s), tennis / pickleball and a regular schedule of diverse activities (gatherings, outings, organized games, etc.). In addition these communities would also have:
Greyhawk – bike / jog paths, dog park and more.
Isles of Collier Preserve – kayaking waterways, dog park, lap pool, more.
Lamorada – movie theater, lap pool, more.
Lely Resort: Ole Subdivision – Town center, mail center, ice cream parlor, volley ball, toddler splash area, more.
Longshore Lake – major tennis programs, more.
Naples Reserve – bike / jog path, boat dock / ramp, lakeside sand beach, lap pool, dog park, more.
Sterling Oaks – major tennis programs, more.
The Dunes of Naples – Tiki Bar, more.
Winding Cypress – bike / jog paths, dog park, more.
Deserving special mention is Pelican Bay, Naples largest development, which provides two private beach clubs to it residents.
